Ryan Shelley’s practice emphasizes white collar criminal defense and government investigations, complex civil and commercial litigation, and employment litigation. Before joining Angeli & Calfo, Ryan worked as a federal public defender, first as an appellate attorney at the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and then as a trial attorney at the Federal Public Defender's Office for the Central District of California. In those roles, he represented clients at all stages of their criminal cases in federal court—from pre-indictment investigations through appeal. He has experience arguing in federal district and appeals courts and was part of a team that briefed a successful appeal before the U.S. Supreme Court. As federal trial court and appellate clerk, Ryan worked on a wide variety of complex civil matters and gained special insight into the judicial process.
Ryan attended Dartmouth College (B.A., Government, 2015) and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law (J.D. 2020). Following law school, Ryan served as a law clerk to the Honorable Karin J. Immergut on the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon and the Honorable Jane L. Kelly on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
